Integrated Sensing Techniques for Assistive Chairs: A Survey towards Sit-to-Stand Problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a survey of the contemporary assistive chairs and on-chair sensing approaches of capturing sit-to-stand (STS) movement. Sitting in a chair and standing up from a seated position are activities of daily living (ADLs) performed by humans. However, older people often encounter difficulties with these activities. These difficulties may cause substantial decreasing of the elderly mobility, leading to inactive participation in social activities and increasing the risk of chronic diseases that may cause premature death. Therefore, assisting older people to overcome these difficulties has significance for their independent living. At present, the assistive devices can be allocated in terms of market available ones and experimental prototypes, both of which are discussed here. Afterwards, the authors cast more light on integrated sensing techniques that are currently used with experimental prototypes and create a taxonomy of sensing techniques. Following from this survey, a chair capable of delivering assistance-as-needed is proposed. Integrated Sensing Techniques for Assistive Chairs: A Survey towards Sit-to-Stand Problems

Sitting and standing performance in a total population of children with cerebral palsy: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND Knowledge of sitting and standing performance in a total population of children with cerebral palsy (CP) is of interest for health care planning and for prediction of future ability in the individual child. In 1994, a register and a health care programme for children with CP in southern Sweden was initiated. In the programme information on how the child usually sits, stands, stands u...
متن کاملBiomechanical Analysis of Assisted Sit - to - Stand
INTRODUCTION A significant number of non-institutionalized older adults have difficulty rising from a chair [1]. Although there exist several assistive devices to aid with sit to stand, there is a lack of research that compares and analyzes various modes of assisted sit to stand to characterize their relative effectiveness in terms of biomechanical metrics. This research advances our understand...
متن کاملSit to Stand Transfer Assisting by an Intelligent Walking-Aid
The sit to transfer assisting for elderly patients using an intelligent walkingaid is presented. This assistive device provides physical support to aid elderly with physical impairment during both the walk and the sit-to-stand transfer. In this paper, we will focus on the sit-to-stand transfer function and more precisely on the trajectory generation of the assistive device handles using interpo...
متن کاملNatural trajectory generation for Robot-Human cooperation for sit-to-stand assistance
This paper presents a method to determine trajectory for robot that involves a close interaction between robotic systems and human beings. The proposed method considers robot trajectory as path in operational space and time rhythm distinct problems verifying the natural smoothness of voluntary human movement. Operational space path is determined experimentally as individual movement pattern. The...

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of sit to stand movement on the muscle activity of lower extremities muscles by the different type of chair and posture. Total 52 healthy adult between 19 and 26 were selected as subject for the study. The muscle activities of vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius by the different types of ch...
